Research On Obesity

By Damian Sofsian Obesity and corpulence are mounting medical tribulations of widespread enormity in the current age. There are many harmful health effects of being overweight such as heart disease, diabetes, asthma, sleep apnea, and chronic musculoskeletal problems. Bariatrics is the division of medicine that deals with the origin, avoidance, and cure of corpulence, through drugs and surgery. Research typically involves a scholarly study of any topic to provide a detailed and accurate description. In case of obesity, research has thrown light on the several complexities that are associated with this state. Research is the source for identifying better treatment and tactics for prevention of obesity. Despite the extended research that has been performed on the topic, there are still a lot of gray areas that need to be explored. Research requires lot of funding. Several studies and experiments have to be conducted on several issues of obesity, including its causes, manifestations, effects, treatment, and management. National Institute of Health (NIH) is the largest public resource of research funding and many researchers look to it for financial assistance. NIH is provided almost $16 billion annually as its budget by the congress. This is distributed to various organizations and foundations researching on obesity connected topics based on specific criteria. American obesity association has been responsible for focusing the attention of the congress and other funding agencies towards the chronic medical problem of obesity. It has been possible to achieve several breakthroughs in the field, through the efforts of several such organizations associated with the cause. The government research organizations also provide information on the false claims made by unscrupulous companies. They also ensure that U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) adopt tougher regulations on companies marketing dietary supplements that make false claims about their efficiency and results on obesity. Several magazines publish research work carried out by governmental and non-governmental organizations. This helps the discerning reader in keeping abreast of the latest developments in the field of obesity. Obesity provides detailed information on Obesity, Obesity Help, Childhood Obesity, Morbid Obesity and more. Obesity is affiliated with Morbid Obesity Surgery. Dating After 40: Do You Feel PHAT on a Date?

By R.L. Morgan No, Im not asking if you are fat. Although many midlife women are concerned about extra pounds that have accumulated through childbirth, enjoying life, heredity, and slowing metabolism. I find it interesting that most of the overweight men Ive gone out with dont consider themselves overweight, but near-normal-weight women often consider themselves fat. Im talking about PHAT: Pretty, Hot And Thick. This term has become popular with the under-30 crowd to describe curvaceous, voluptuous, Rubenesque, plump, plus-size women with a saucy attitude. In dating, it can be sobering reading many mens profiles that say they only want a woman who is slender when you know you arent. I am thrilled when I read that a man accepts and sometimes prefers a woman with some curves. What this says to me is that the man is a bit more open minded than many, and understands there are amazing women in packages that are beyond size 2. Last year a movie titled PHAT Girlz starring MoNique, focused on showing that women who wear queen-size hose can feel sexy and be attractive to hot men. Queen Latifah has never shiedQueen Latifah away from strutting her stuff in tight-fitting, revealing clothing. No longer is being larger a reason to feel one must hide behind matronly clothing. Being PHAT is mostly about attitude. It is not being afraid to wear flattering, curve-accentuating clothing. It is about feeling sexy and allowing that attitude to come out. You exude self-esteem and like who you are. It shows through your walk, your posture, your solid eye contact, your easy smile, your flirting. If you want some ideas on how to look fabulous if you are PHAT, rent Queen Latifahs Last Holiday (after her transition), Bringing Down the House and Beauty Shop. Also, the aforementioned PHAT Girlz. R.L. Morgan, “The Dating Goddess,” brings you her experience from the front line of dating after 40 — having dated 73 men in 2 years after her 20-year marriage broke up. Hydroponics Gardening - An Introduction To Hydroponics Gardening For Beginners (Part 23) Cytokinins

By John R. Haughton Cytokinins Influence How Fast And How Often Your Plants Cells Divide Cytokinins are organic chemical compounds containing Carbon, Hydrogen and Nitrogen, whose structure resembles that of Adenine. They promote cell division and have other similar functions to Kinetin, which was the first cytokinin discovered and named because of its ability to promote cytokinesis (cell division). Despite being a natural compound, Kinetin is not made by plants, which leads to it being thought of as a synthetic Cytokinin. (A hormone synthesized somewhere other than in the plant.) In todays plants the most common form of naturally occurring cytokinin is called Zeatin which was isolated from corn (Zea mays). Cytokinins have been found in almost all higher plants as well as mosses, fungi, bacteria, and also in the RNA (definition) of many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Today there are more than 200 natural and synthetic Cytokinins combined. Cytokinin concentrations are highest in meristematic regions. Meristemic tissue is a type of cellular plant tissue containing non-specialised embryonic cells. It is found in areas of the plant where growth may take place, such as the shoots, buds and roots. Specialised plant cells have a precise set of rules that they follow in order to produce cells of the correct shape, size and structure. Because the plant needs to be adaptable as it grows it uses the meristemic cells in order to alter the shape and structure of the plant body as it grows. Thus the meristem provides new cells which the plant uses to expand its basic body and form. This allows the plant to maintain its shape and type of structure according to its rules, while still giving leeway for growth. Each of the roots and shoots being able to grow and expand as needed throughout their lifetime. Because this primary growth is not predetermined by the plants blueprint, the overall shape of the plant is also indeterminate in advance. This gives each meristem the latent ability to develop into a complete plant. As a consequence of this new plants can be grown from cuttings where cells in the broken or cut end change to become specialised root cells. This method of reproduction is called Asexual or Vegetative Reproduction. Get Organized for Wedding Planning!

By Stacey Agin Murray You’ve had friends to your home for dinner. Maybe you’ve hosted a Super Bowl party or two. But have you ever planned and coordinated an event for 50-300 guests? If you haven’t, then welcome to the world of wedding planning. Caterers, florists, and other wedding-related companies will be banging down your door to get your business. Friends and relatives will offer advice, phone numbers, and web sites for you to check out. How will you juggle the multitudes of research and information from those who want your day to be special? The key to smooth and stress-reducing wedding planning is… Being Organized Being organized is the art of having the things you need when you need them whether it is a brochure, a phone number, or a picture of your ultimate bridal bouquet. And no one recognizes the need to be organized more than someone who is planning a wedding. A few organizing techniques you can use to help you plan your wedding are the consistent use of a calendar/PDA and making ‘to-do lists.’ But what about all of those wedding-related papers you’ve accumulated? Estimates from caterers, song sheets from bands, and all of those pictures you tore out of magazines–how are you supposed to keep them all organized? The Wedding Binder The top tool for organized wedding planning is a ‘Wedding Binder.’ Besides your future spouse, your ‘Wedding Binder’ will be the closest thing to a best friend you’ll have during your engagement period. The wedding binder is essentially a ‘home’ for all wedding-related information. Each topic will have a specific area in the binder allowing for quick referencing and retrieval. How should you build your wedding binder to work best for you? The size of your wedding and how many ‘extras’ you incorporate into your wedding day (ex. ice sculptures, doves) will determine the size of your binder. If you are having a small, simple gathering or you’re not doing much research, you may not need more than a 1″ spine. Large gatherings with many ‘extras’ will probably require a binder with upwards of a 3″ spine. Besides the binder itself, you will need: three hole punched, two-sided pocket folders extra wide dividers or self adhesive divider tabs for the pocket folders three hole punched, zippered pocket for pen/pencils/paper clips (optional) One, two-sided pocket folder is usually enough room for the paperwork of one vendor. One side of the pocket folder is for ideas and research and the other side is for estimates and contracts. Keeping these different types of information separate will allow you to locate them and retrieve at a moment’s notice. Examples of some categories for your pocket folders are… Catering Photography Bridal Gown Transportation Ceremony/Officiant(s) Honeymoon Assemble the pocket folders in order of importance to you. If you are constantly making calls to your caterer, place that folder towards the front of the binder. Already know what favors you want to give out? Place that folder towards the back. What other information can be stored in your wedding binder? Guest lists/gift lists E-mail/phone list of bridal party members Seating charts A print-out of your registry Benefits to using a wedding binder Money-saving benefit: You’re always prepared when a vendor wants to talk about price. If someone quotes you a price in writing and you can’t produce the paper it’s written on, they could try to charge you more money for their services. Time-saving benefit: Since all of your information has a ‘home,’ you won’t be wasting your time printing duplicate information off the internet or repeatedly asking for the addresses of your guests. Sanity-saving benefit: All of your wedding information is in one place. No need to take apart your living room looking for what you need. Tips for keeping an organized wedding binder: Label the pocket folders clearly Place new papers/information in the correct pocket of your binder as soon as you receive them. Sort and purge your binder once a month. Toss any information that is no longer relevant in the trash or in a folder for a friend or relative who may need it in the future. Always bring your wedding binder with you when meeting with your vendors. You’ll have all the information you need to compare prices and make educated decisions. You will be organized, prepared and in control of your special day. How To Receive Payment as a Freelance Translator?

By Khalid Belamdini A problem most freelance translators are facing with is how to receive payment. In particular: How to receive payment for small jobs. Many translation agencies are reluctant to pay small fees via wire transfer due to the transaction fees; often they will send you a check instead. And I suppose I dont have to tell you: The banks charge an enormous commission when you come and want to cash in your check. Then along came PayPal Basically PayPal lets you send and receive payment over the Internet. It bases its service on the existing bank and credit card networks, but it is not a bank in itself. Registering is free; all you need is an email address. Sending money is free - receiving money however, is not. You pay 3.4 % of the received amount unless you are receiving dollars; in this case you pay 2.9 % of the received amount. Then you have to pay a flat fee for each transaction: 0.35 Euros or 0.30 Dollars. In addition you have to pay a cross boarder fee of 0.5 % - 1.0 % if you receive payment from someone located in another country. Then you have to pay a small fee when you withdraw your money to your regular bank account. (Unless your bank is located in the United States; then you dont have to pay this fee.) How much this is depends on the country you are located in. I for instance live in Switzerland and have to pay 0.50 CHF to withdraw to my account. Banks in countries within EU, except the United Kingdom, all charge 1.0 Euro. Lets have a look at an example. I perform a small translation and charge a minimum fee of 20 Euro. 3.4 % of 20 Euro is 0.68 Euro, plus the flat fee of 0.35 Euro. Add the cross boarder fee of 1%, which is 0.20 Euro. So, of my 20 Euros PayPal takes 1.20 Euros. In addition comes the fee of 0.50 CHF for withdrawing the money to my regular bank account. If the agency sent me a check instead of using PayPal, my bank would charge 7.50 CHF (4.80 Euros) for cashing the check for me. Each bank has its own fees for cashing checks and receiving wire transfers. But for smaller amounts PayPal is definitely the cheapest way of accepting payment. You will have to do a small calculation and see how large amounts you can receive before the PayPal fees exceed the fees your bank charges. But is it safe? Most freelance translators using this way of receiving payment are satisfied with the service and have had no problem with PayPal. I have only heard of one-two translators having their accounts frozen by PayPal for no legitimate reason. Some negative aspects of PayPal The problems with PayPal only start when you have a problem, so to speak. Resolving a problem can be very time-consuming and frustrating, and in many cases no solution is reached. Their customer support is not exactly something to brag about. It is very difficult to get behind their wall of auto responders and answering machines! Another thing to be aware of are scams. There are numerous scams around, from people sending out emails pretending to be from PayPal asking you to confirm your credit card numbers, to hackers going in to your account and spending all your money. Other negative aspects of PayPal are that it is not available in all countries and you can only receive payment in a few currencies. By using PayPal you take a large risk compared to using the normal banking system. The chance of loosing your money is there. At the moment there are several lawsuits filed against PayPal and a lot of people who have lost money and not received any compensation. Have a look at these web sites: http://www.paypalwarning.com http://www.aboutpaypal.org/ A few tips for using PayPal The majority of the people having problems with PayPal are people selling items via auctions etc. Some examples: Payment is cashed from the buyers account and not transferred to the sellers account. A buyer uses a stolen credit card number to purchase items from you and your account risk being frozen for being involved with criminal activity. As long as you use PayPal to receive money and dont connect you PayPal account to a credit card the risk is relatively low. In the worst case you could lose the money available on you PayPal account, threw whatever reason: hackers getting in to your account, PayPal freezing your account etc. Having read a few of the horror stories about PayPal, I am very cautious using their system. But I still use it for receiving small payments. Basically out of lack of alternatives. PayPal was the first company to offer this kind of service, and for a long time it was the only company providing this service. In the last year or so a few other companies have started providing the same service or very similar services. Most of them are very new companies and still not industry standard. When I ask agencies if they pay via Moneybookers for instance, they have never heard of this. But many of them can offer payment threw PayPal. I am sure there soon will be very good alternatives. But for now it seems we are stuck with PayPal whether we like it or not. Guidelines for using PayPal The only advice I can give is to be careful using PayPal. Here are some tips to help minimize the risk of loosing money threw PayPal. 1. Only receive smaller amounts through PayPal. 2. Never leave large amounts on your PayPal account: Withdraw your money as soon as you have a couple of hundred Euros/Dollars. 3. Log in to your account and check that everything is ok each time you expect to receive payment. 4. Be prepared to lose the money on your account. Talking Any Time, Anywhere, Really Isn’t OK

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Shirley_Ann_Parker]Shirley Ann Parker With the exception of the terminally shy person, we all need to communicate with other people. And cell phones? Theyre everywhere now. We can hardly do without them. Not that we cant do something about our priorities, especially our frequent lack of courtesy. Noise pollution follows us wherever we go, so we all have tales of great annoyance to report. And we wont even get into the topic of people who talk on the phone while driving a car or truck in heavy traffic. They so infuriate me, as I try to keep away from them, that I will leave that topic for someone else. It used to be that people presumably talking to themselves were given a wide berth by passers-by. Nowadays you can walk along, presumably talking to yourself and, depending on where you are, no one makes fun of you. However, along with any new freedom, there are major responsibilities: 1. People generally dont ridicule the person walking down the street and talking into the air, even when that grey wire snaking out of a jacket pocket is hard to see. On the other hand, irritated bystanders are likely to snarl instead. They may let you know in a number of ways that you are interrupting their only time of peace and quiet. A typical example of garden-variety rudeness is this. While waiting in line at the post office this weekend, we all had to put up with someone yakking on a cell phone in the post office lobby, where sound is amplified. None of us were interested in his personal business, or his scolding of whoever was on the other end of the line. It may have been a business associate, friend or family member. However, it sounded as though he wasnt going to have the person in his social circle very much longer, given the timbre of his rantings. With only a few seconds of thought, the man could have taken himself outdoors, and saved everyone elses ears, temper, and nerves. He wasnt there to buy stamps, just to check the contents of his post office box, which probably took him at least 25 minutes longer than it should have done. 2. A cell phone is within the budgetary reach of most working people, most of the time. As wonderful as cell phones are, literally lifesavers many times over, they come at a cost. In the 1980s in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and other westernized nations, mobile phones were the privilege of the executive, the doctor, and a few other select professionals. With a few heavyweight exceptions, they could only be used in the car or truck. Personally, Im glad that mobile phones are no longer the province of the elite. Each human being is entitled to whatever advances he can earn and that modern miracles can supply. As usual, however, technology has advanced faster than society could formulate the ethics to go along with it. That is, just because we can now use cell phones to talk any time, anywhere, does not mean that we should. Yet, people just jumped on the bandwagon, and now we cant shut them up. Even when cell phones interfere with critical hospital equipment, selfish, supposedly educated people haul them out of their pockets and handbags anyway. Perhaps they could be prosecuted for causing harm to a patient undergoing a critical procedure. Sometimes, incoming hospital patients slip a cell phone past Admissions staff, and then sit in or on their beds, yakking away, until busy nurses catch them at it. It used to be that such rude people just picked up one of the room phones to talk for hours, if they were well off and wanted to be inconsiderate. They simply dont care if the patient behind the curtain in the shared room is recovering from earlier surgery, or is otherwise very ill. 3. Not to be scatological, but a very annoying habit of cell phone users is in public restrooms, especially at work. You can seldom use the restroom without someone being in one of the stalls and answering a call on their cell phone or Blackberry, at the same time theyre answering the call of nature. Even more annoying is when someone sits in a stall for quite some time, making outgoing calls on the cell phone. Such activity is often followed half an hour later, by a broadcast e-mail to the entire company that begins, If anyone has seen a Nokiablah, blah, I left it in the ladies restroom at the northwest corner of the building. A variation is If anyone has lost a Motorola, please call 1234 and identify the case and the phone. Maybe we can all just shut up once in a while. Talking any time, anywhere, really isnt OK. 2006 Shirley Ann Parker Shirley Ann Parker is a full-time technical writer.
